In the contact method, the stud is preloaded against a spring force when the welding gun or automatic welding head is placed on the workpiece. This means that there is electrical contact between the stud's ignition tip and the workpiece right from the start.
When the weld is triggered by the operator or the automation system, the ignition tip melts instantly and thus ignites the arc between the stud flange and the workpiece.
The spring force then moves the stud towards the workpiece by the distance freed up by the melting of the ignition tip. Once the stud has finally been placed, the weld pool solidifies.

Application:
Steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass, metal-coated sheets
Due to the higher joining force and the longer welding time, the contact method is suitable for steel and stainless steel as well as for electroplated sheets.
